You know, I have done quite a bit of artistic stuff around town. Starting back in the early 1980s, a little bit of this and a little bit of that soon adds up.
I think all-in-all I designed at least 50 business logos, knocked up a few dozen business card and letter head designs, and even managed to do calligraphy for both a Chinese Restaurant menu, and for a couple of wedding events too.
The stuff I liked doing the most was sign-writing for pubs and two estate agents.
I am such a hoarder, so it is great fun from time to time to look through stuff. here’s one logo for a restaurant. It was called The Grove, and was aimed at being a romantic hide-away. I think this was my initial sketch from early 1980, but the end professional end product was pretty close.
I think you can see where I was going with this — and the influence of Roger Dean and Rick Griffin on using the lettering style alone to make the image.
Sadly, the restaurant is long gone, along with the sign, cards, menus, napkins and some of the best home-made apple pie I have ever tasted!
