I love Andy McKee’s “Drifting”. I do — and it has nothing whatsoever to do with clever guitar technique or skill; it has everything to do with being a good tune.

I saw him play live in Glasgow — read my review here:  2007/11/14/andy-mckee-and-tommy-emmanuel/ and I have to say that he seems like a very nice human being too.

Andy’s tuning has both the top and bottom E strings dropped to D,  and the 2nd thinnest — what is usually tuned to B is dropped to A.
So instead of E-A-D-G-B-E, we get D-A-D-G-A-D  going thick to thin.

The web is chock full of tabs

There are even video tutorials, such as  at Part One and Part Two at – which is just:

All of which goes to show the sheer impact of this tune on the guitar world — and of Andy — and also the power of YouTube to change the world.
